Sewage treatment fee pricing needs marketization
According to sewage treatment equipment manufacturers, the important reason for the gap between sewage treatment costs and charges is the public welfare nature of China's environmental protection industry. For a long time, there has been a controversy over whether it is a public property or a commodity property, and environmental service fees have always fluctuated between market pricing and government pricing. In October this year, the Xinhua News Agency issued "Several Opinions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council on Promoting the Reform of the Price Mechanism." A scientific, standardized and transparent price supervision system and anti-monopoly law enforcement system have been basically established, and the price regulation mechanism has been basically improved.
"It can be understood that municipal utilities and industrial sewage industries will gradually increase prices, and prices will enter the rising channel." Xue Tao, senior partner of E20 Environmental Platform and executive dean of E20 Research Institute, said. But how far the market needs to go in pricing, and what setbacks it will encounter, is unknown. "To promote market pricing, the government needs to further improve the market mechanism, reasonably intervene without the offside control, and form a unified market price adjustment mechanism."
